Reto Berra allows goal from opposing blue line at Worlds (Video)
Kazakhstan, led by former NHLer Nigel Dawes' two goals in the shootout, topped Switzerland on Saturday 3-2 in the preliminary round of the IIHF World Championships.
The Swiss nearly went up 2-0 in the second period when they had a pair or power plays minutes apart, but it was Kazakhstan that was the side taking advantage.
With the puck approaching him at his own blue line and his team shorthanded, Kazakhstan defenseman Roman Savchenko just fired a shot on Reto Berra at the other end, a good move to help kill the power play. But what happened next was the puck went top shelf over Berra’s glove to tie the game.

"Someone who has never been a goalkeeper has no idea," Berra said afterward via 20 Minuten. "It looks stupid, but shots from such a distance are difficult to keep."
The teams would exchange power play goals in the third period setting the scene for Dawes’ heroics in the shootout.
Having spent the last five seasons playing for Barys Astana in the KHL, Dawes, along with former NHLers Dustin Boyd and Brandon Bochenski, earned Kazakh citizenship this year to play for the national team.
